out west.
TASMANIA’S WEST COAST ISN’T A PLACE YOU PASS THROUGH — IT’S A DESTINATION THAT ASKS SOMETHING OF YOU. THE DRIVE ALONE TELLS YOU THAT. LONG ROADS CURLING THROUGH RAINFOREST, WEATHER ROLLING IN FAST AND LOW, TOWNS STITCHED TIGHT INTO THE LANDSCAPE.
my visit to the western wilds was more than just a road trip. someone i loved dearly departed this life out here, unexpectedly. returning brought with it a quiet kind of reckoning — and, eventually, a measure of peace. i stood on ocean beach at macquarie heads with the wind at my back and the beauty of it all settled around me like a balm.
i spent a few days wandering with my camera through queenstown’s scarred hills, zeehan’s stone facades and the shopfronts in strahan worn soft with salt and time. i wandered not to chase nostalgia, but to notice what still stands. to notice what’s being renewed.
the images i gathered are subtle — light on iron, hand-painted signs, the texture of buildings that have held decades of weather and story. for council-led tourism initiatives, heritage accommodation or small businesses this kind of photography tells more than what a place looks like. It tells how it feels to be there.
i’m always happy to return to the west. i write a little more about the kind of projects i say yes to in field notes | the kind of work i say yes to.
if my work feels aligned with you, let’s organise a complimentary in-person visit.
